Take Meaningful Action On What You Control
The certification standards developed by Net Zero Eyecare are designed to guide businesses in the Optical industry along the path to full Net Zero, with respect to the challenges of time, budget, and data that can hinder an entity’s progress.
The Carbon Neutral National Operations standard reflects the fact that many suppliers– the intended Applicants for this certification - exist almost entirely at one end of a multi-national, global supply chain, over which the Applicant has little to no control – let alone information or carbon data to draw upon.
Therefore, this standard is designed to introduce applicants to the complete process of carbon accounting as outlined by the GHG Protocol’s Corporate, Scope 2 and Scope 3 standards, whilst excluding the elements (such as upstream transport & distribution, upstream manufacturing, and embodied carbon in products) that are least under the entity’s control. Hence, a boundary is established at the national boarder.
This focuses attention on the areas most within an Applicant’s control, over which they have the greatest opportunity to obtain accurate data and make viable reductions. Entities are encouraged to report upstream activities relating to products as a provisional “out-of-scope” figure, but this is not required for certification.
This standard is designed to be used by Suppliers working/operating within the optical industry. Applicants eligible for this Net Zero Carbon certification include but are not limited to:
Distributing (non-manufacturing) Suppliers
Manufacturing Suppliers
