We recognise that the world we inhabit is not an infinite resource, and that as a population we are faced with a climate crisis that, even with our best efforts to mitigate it, will pose a profound threat to our communities, livelihoods and wellbeing.
Therefore, while continuing to deliver exemplary eyecare and other services to our patients and customers, we are committed to making our practices more sustainable, doing our bit to help achieve Net Zero carbon emissions in line with a 1.5º target set out in the Paris agreement, and establishing a net-positive impact wherever possible.
We will achieve this by taking actions to reduce our Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon footprints consistently and indefinitely, and by offsetting our unavoidable carbon footprint completely via verified schemes (facilitated by Net Zero Eyecare) so that we are fully net-zero. As such, we will be able to proudly say that we are Net-Zero businesses.
We will also actively work with our teams, peers, and supply chain to help the entire optical industry, nationally and internationally, become more sustainable.
Our very business is, by nature, awash with plastic: from contact lenses to sunglasses to spectacle cases and cleaning cloths. We will act to reduce plastic from our in-store branded materials and packaging as much as possible, switching to more sustainable alternatives where possible, and encouraging our industry to do the same.
Furthermore, we appreciate that transitioning to a truly sustainable world is about much more than carbon emissions and plastic waste. It’s about responsible use of resources in all forms, the restoration of nature, the growth of communities and pursuit of true equality for all. That’s a big challenge, but we’re committed to doing our bit at every opportunity*, and striving to do better, together.
