For any business or organization, regardless of whether they’re just starting out on their sustainability journey or well established along a multi-year strategic plan, one of the single most important actions to be taken to do declare one’s intention in a commitment to achieve Net Zero Emissions by a certain date.
The NHS and wider government procurement strategies are increasingly calling for Net Zero Commitments – just as outlined in this standard – of 2045-or-earlier as a basic requirement for new contracts. The importance of having a publicly available Net Zero Commitment for transparency and accountability purposes has never been more clear.
This standard sets out clear guidance and structure for anyone in the optical industry to make a Net Zero Commitment and receive certification for doing so. In officially recognising through certification this small but imperative action, Net Zero Eyecare hopes to inspire further action towards Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions; action from the organization making the commitment, and from the wider industry.
