Divest from Fossil Fuels
Around 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions result from the combustion of fossil fuels to generate electricity, but Renewable (ie. Solar, Wind, Hydro) and Zero-Carbon (ie. Nuclear and Renewables) solutions are increasingly available and increasingly cost effective. Switching from fossil to renewable sources of electricity is one of the most important actions to help make imperative global greenhouse gas emissions reductions.
This standard pulls from the GHG Protocol guidance on Scope 2 and Scope 3, so that all electricity directly relating to an optical business’s operations can be reasonably accounted for.
This standard sets out clear guidance and structure for anyone in the optical industry to receive recognition, in the form of certification, for being “Powered by Renewables” (or “Powered Without Fossils” in cases where Nuclear is present in the fuel mix). In officially recognizing through certification this simple yet important action, Net Zero Eyecare hopes to inspire further action towards Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions; action from the applicant organisation, and from the wider industry.
This standard is designed to be used by any business within or peripheral to the Optical Industry. Applicants eligible for this Net Zero Carbon certification include but are not limited to:
Optical Practices
Service Providers
Distributing Suppliers and Sales Agencies
Manufacturing Suppliers
