Net Zero Commitment - FREE CERTIFICATION

Applicable for: Optical Practices & Industry Suppliers

One of the single most important actions any business can take is to make a formal commitment to achieve Net Zero emissions. What's more, the NHS and other procurement channels are already making such a commitment a mandatory requirement!

As long as your public commitment includes all the right elements, Net Zero Eyecare will award this certification for free, with no administrative fees or hidden costs.

Carbon Neutral Eyewear

Applicable for: Optical Practices

While an Optical Practice might express a preference for accredited "sustainable" suppliers, the reality is that very few frames or lenses are carbon neutral at point of sale.

Certified Carbon Neutral Eyewear demonstrates that a Practice has taken the initiative to account for the carbon footprint of the eyewear items they sell and fully offset that footprint via Net Zero Eyecare's carbon offsetting programme.

Carbon Neutral Audiology

Applicable for: Optical Practices, Locum Audiologists

Carbon Neutral Audiology provides practices with a great introduction to carbon accounting, and then draws a careful line around Audiology services offered within a practice.

This can be a useful stepping-stone for practices on their way to Net Zero Carbon certification or, alternatively, is the perfect way for Locum Audiologists to ensure that all of their activities are Carbon Neutral across all the practices they work out of.

Powered By Renewables / Powered Without Fossils

Applicable for: Optical Practices and Industry Suppliers

What's the single-biggest impact a business can have, cutting your carbon footprint quickly and supporting a low-carbon future?

Divest from fossil fuels in your electricity supply.

This new certification offers recognition for practices making that critical switch. "Powered by Renewables" recognises 100% renewable sources in your electricity fuel mix; "Powered Without Fossils" recognises that Nuclear (though not a renewable energy source) is a zero-carbon energy source that's widely available, and just as welcome in the battle to kick fossil fuels from the energy sector.

Net Zero Carbon - For Practices

Applicable for: Practices, Locums.

Scopes 1, 2 and 3 of carbon accounting provide unique challenges to Optical Practices - and we take that as an opportunity to do more, not less, than you might expect, by even incorporating patient travel into mandatory carbon accounting.

Certified Net Zero Carbon practices have been through thorough carbon accounting, including Greenhouse Gas emissions directly and indirectly within their control, and factor in comprehensive emissions from further up and down the supply chain, to identify reduction opportunities and unavoidable emissions in the here and now. Those unavoidable emissions are then offset via Net Zero Eyecare's carbon offsetting programme.

This certification represents the greatest climate action currently available to optical practices.
